More about the country of Lesotho

Lesotho is a small mountainous country completely landlocked within South Africa.
Once colonized by Britain, it gained its independence in 1966. Lesotho is one of the highest countries in the world with its lowest point being 4,593ft (the highest, lowest point in the world).
The majority of the population that live in the highlands rely on farming to survive. Many young men must leave school to become shepherds in the fields. The people of Lesotho are called Basotho and they speak Sesotho...(Sotho is pronounced suuu-tooo)

Lesotho is greatly affected by HIV/AIDS. It has one of the highest rates in the world...the 3rd highest in fact. Approximately 1 out of 7 Basotho is living with HIV or AIDS. Over 100,000 children have lost one or both parents to this rampant disease. One reason HIV is spreading so widely in Lesotho is the sexual violence that is sweeping the nation. Over 60% of the women have reported being affected by sexual abuse at some point in their life.
The internet claims the percentage of Christians in Lesotho is 80-90%, evangelicals estimate the figure to be closer to 2%

I tell you this to help you understand how lost this country is. It is full of darkness and in need of a Savior. Which is why we are going..to share the Light and Hope of Jesus.
